The Spanish language is such an interesting language to learn since it can give you much new information to learn, pronunciations to adjust to and mistakes to be learned. Good news about mistakes or accidental errors is that they tend to let you stay on the right path all the way since it keeps you at bay from committing the same error again.

It’s always okay to commit language mistakes but do not allow yourself to do it again or at least, prevent yourself from making the same mistake because you’ll never know when it’s going to be the next time you might unconsciously fall prey on the same mistakes you did weeks or months ago. What else is that, a plain error, one Spanish word incorrectly used for the wrong purpose could get you in a great deal of embarrassment especially when you are talking to native Spanish speakers.

The thing is that, the Spanish speaking countries have similar words used for everyday conversation but could mean differently from each other. Assuming for the right words when you’re using it in the wrong places and people is one could be downright funny.

Words like cocino (fat pig) and cocinero (cook) could confuse you easily and letting it clumsily come out of your mouth in the wrong occasion could either get you in trouble (seriously). But fortunately, there hasn’t been any incident of a foreigner struck down by a native Spanish speaker just because of a language mix up.

There are more “false friends” in the Spanish language and similar to the example above, two almost similar words doesn’t have the same definition. For sure you know somebody who has accidentally used the wrong word for a good intention but ended with people laughing or staring weirdly at his face. But hey, that’s one lesson for sure which your or your friend will never forget.

I really want to learn spanish! I think its an awesome language to be able to learn, and I think it would be cool to learn the language in a short amount of time!

I would learn it with a Spanish course for sure.

Doing it this way allows you to focus on what matters and learn the "proper" way, which means you learn from the ground up: basics first and the more complex stuff later.

Take a look at:
http://www.fastonlinespanish.com/the-hands-down-fastest-way-to-learn-spanish.html

It tells you the fastest way to learn and recommends you use a course called Rocket Spanish.

You'll get all sorts of answers on here ranging from "you can't learn it that fast" to "move to Costa Rica for 10 weeks". At the end of the day, it's down to your own focus and determination.

I hope this has helped you

I wish to learn Portuguese, but the University I am attending only offers Spanish. I have elected to learn Spanish, but was wondering about the extent to which my knowledge of Spanish will be transferrable to Portuguese?

If it helps, I'm pretty good at learning languages.

Knowledge of Spanish makes learning Portuguese alot easier, that's for sure. So it will be easy, especially if you're good at learning languages.

Here's a podcast for Spanish speakers wanting to learn Portuguese (Specifically Braz. Port)

The Spanish language can be learned in any order after getting to know the basic pronunciation, vocabulary and number study. It is actually similar when learning other foreign languages, not just the Spanish. Learning a foreign language, for one reason, requires curiosity and interest from the learner or the student because without the two, the lessons aid and memorization methods wouldn’t have any purpose at all since it won’t and can’t be learned very well and put in to good use by the student learning it. So why even bother?

Language also appeals to the personal interest of a person and one can’t just be forced to learn it if the language doesn’t shift the person’s mood from boredom to excitement. In Spanish, it is important that you touch-base on specific lessons first which appeal to you the most because from there, other lessons of the Spanish language just easily flows in your system and before you even know it, everything you need to know about the Spanish language has already sink in.

What you may want to concentrate on is the Spanish verb conjugation because this is one area of the language which could become difficult for most beginners. Spanish verb conjugation could leave you with “how” and “why” questions but it could become a breeze once the lesson on the Spanish verb basic time frames has been focused to intently.

An important reminder in learning the language is to always keep yourself up to date with the lessons especially if you’re learning from free online resources. There are always new approach and correction articles on past Spanish lessons so it’s always a good idea to keep your mind open to possible changes since not all learning sources (especially if its free) are similar or accurate.

Another thing why learning the Spanish language can become as easy A, B, C is because the minute you progress on the different Spanish lessons over time, you also would have developed the adaptation of speaking and using Spanish in any way most comfortable for you and nobody has to correct you of your style!
