Listen And Learn

As human beings we are different from other species. What differentiates us is our ability to intelligently understand our surroundings and to communicate with each other using highly evolved languages. We learn our fist words by listening to our parents, as toddlers. It is not surprising that the first language that we learn is the one in which we are the most fluent.
We continue to acquire knowledge during our lifetimes; whether it is inside or outside the classrooms. We learn by listening and doing. The learning process is reinforced by asking questions and being curious about our surroundings. Listening remains one of the most important steps in the learning process.
Children who have the habit of listening will understand well. Take the example of learning language. In order to learn a language other than our first language, the first thing that we need to do is to understand the grammar and syntax behind the language. Once we know the basics of a language, the next step is to increase our level of comfort with the language by practicing to use the language.
So, how do we gain fluency in a language other than our mother tongue? By speaking, reading and listening to the language. Listening to the spoken form of the language is of utmost importance. Even people, who have an aptitude for learning language, need to practice a second language in order to become fluent.
The first and foremost step in practicing to use a second language is to listen to the spoken form of the language. Take the case of English. If you wish to learn English, it is recommended that you go in for improving proficiency in English listening skill. This will help you to become fluent and improve your command over the language.
Besides listening, speaking, reading and writing are also important. However, listening remains the primary form of contact with a language. By listening we are able to understand subtleties about the language that are not apparent by reading or by just studying grammar.
